HEI Schools Indonesia Expands Its Presence in Jakarta with the Opening of HEI Schools SPM Menteng
A Collaboration Between HEI Schools Indonesia and Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) Responding to the Growing Interest in Finland-Based Early Childhood Education
Following the success of its first campus in Senayan, HEI Schools Indonesia officially opened its second campus, HEI Schools SPM Menteng, through a collaboration with Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) Menteng. This new campus marks a strategic step in HEI Schools’ mission to bring world-class early childhood education, grounded in research from the University of Helsinki, into the heart of Jakarta.
Located in central Jakarta, HEI Schools SPM Menteng embraces the theme “Growing the HEI Way,” highlighting HEI Schools’ philosophy of nurturing children through joyful, holistic, and child-centered learning experiences.
The soft launch event, held on 11 November 2025, was attended by H.E. Pekka Kaihilahti, Ambassador of Finland to Indonesia, ASEAN, and Timor-Leste, along with representatives from HEI Schools Indonesia and SPM Menteng.
In addition to the opening ceremony, the event featured a talk show with Arthalia Larsen, Co-Founder & School Director of HEI Schools Indonesia, and Rosdiana Setyaningrum, M.Psi., M.HPEd., psychologist and Center Director of MS School & Wellbeing Center. During the discussion, both speakers elaborated on the HEI Way, particularly its application of play-based learning within the HEI Schools curriculum. This play-based approach supports character development, creativity, and children’s overall wellbeing throughout the learning process.
Arthalia Larsen explained, “HEI Schools Indonesia is not only about a play-based learning approach, but also about a curriculum and research rooted in Finland. This curriculum believes that one of the best ways to nurture lifelong learners is by ensuring that children enjoy their learning process in accordance with their individual developmental stages. Daily routines at HEI Schools Indonesia are designed so that every moment and interaction carries meaningful learning value tailored to each child’s growth and development needs.”
Since its establishment in 2020, HEI Schools Senayan graduates have successfully transitioned to various primary schools offering International, Cambridge, IB, National, and National Plus curricula, demonstrating the effectiveness of the HEI learning approach.
Teddy Koentjoro, Co-Founder and Business Director of HEI Schools Indonesia, shared that the opening of HEI Schools SPM Menteng is not only an expansion, but also a celebration of Menteng’s heritage through a meaningful learning space that combines historic architecture with modern education. Meanwhile, Glenn Thompson, Director of Parent Relations & Marketing at SPM, emphasized that the campus offers a seamless learning journey from preschool to primary school within a supportive and nurturing environment.
With facilities such as an indoor gym, music room, outdoor playground, and creative exploration areas, HEI Schools SPM Menteng is designed to support children’s holistic development.
